Seize the day!
I just finished The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I feel like I'm the last one to pick this up and read it. In fact, it was the 25th anniversary edition I read, so there you go.
I keep seeing quotes from Paulo Coelho and have wanted to know more. So I began with his seminal work. Here are some of the parts I underlined:
It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.
Dreams are the language of God....if he speaks in the language of the soul, it is only you who can understand.
"What's the world's greatest lie?" the boy asked, completely surprised. "It's this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie."
Treasure is uncovered by the force of flowing water, and it is buried by the same currents.
...when each day is the same as the next, it's because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises.
Don't forget that everything you deal with is only one thing and nothing else.
He was learning a lot of new things. Some of them were things that he had already experienced, and weren't really new, but that he had never perceived before. And he hadn't perceived them because he had become accustomed to them.
All things are one.
When someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision.
All things are the manifestation of one thing only.
And this, from a very different, Buddhist text:
...we cannot know which will happen first: tomorrow morning or the next life.
Your life is precious. Each day is an opportunity to start again, to change your life so it's the way you want it, to make the best choices you can.
So, seize it. Go ahead; do it.
